Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Mar. 10, BYD celebrated the groundbreaking for its passenger vehicle (PV) production plant in Thailand, which is the Chinese automaker’s first overseas PV manufacturing base, according to a press release from BYD.

The latest move marks the further expansion of BYD’s overseas business deployment and another demonstration of BYD’s improved presence in the Asia-Pacific market.

Covering an area of nearly 600 rai (1 rai approximately equals 1600 square meters), BYD’s PV manufacturing base in Thailand is expected to begin production in 2024 with an annual production capacity of around 150,000 vehicles.

The construction of the PV production base and the promotion of local sales are inseparable, said BYD. After the base starts operation, the lengthy and flexible procedures including sea shipment and clearance will be removed to greatly shorten the duration from order placements to local vehicle delivery.

Meanwhile, BYD delivered the 9,999th and 10,000th BYD ATTO 3 to customers with Rever Automative company on site.

The BYD ATTO 3 is the first SUV to ride on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, which comprises a highly integrated 8-in-1 electric powertrain, the BYD Blade Battery, and the high-efficiency heat pump.

Thailand has become one of the important centers for the new energy vehicle industry in the Asia-Pacific region. As of January 31, 2023, there had been 16,672 full electric vehicles registered across Thailand, a 281.86% surge compared to the year-ago level.

Relying on the single model of the BYD ATTO 3, BYD registered 1,352 vehicles from the beginning of sales in November 2022 to the end of January 2023, accounting for 8% of the total pure electric vehicles registrations in Thailand. By the end of February, the cumulative registrations of the BYD ATTO 3 in Thailand had reached 3,000 units.
